Judicial Externship Seminar

Prerequisites: All first-year courses This seminar is required for all students enrolled in the Judicial Externship fieldwork course, and students are assigned to either the state court or federal court seminar depending on their placement. The course helps orient students to life in judicial chambers and exposes students to issues relevant to that setting including judicial ethics; case and docket management; the judge?s role in decision-making, settlement, and trial; the judicial selection process; court administration; the courts and the media; and critique of the justice system. Students share and interpret their fieldwork experiences in relation to these and other selected topics about the courts and judges.

Grading and Method of Evaluation:
Letter grade only. Students will be assessed based on reflective and other short writing assignments, in-class activities, and professionalism and class participation.
